Great Pizza in a Small Towns

Some of these places are true hidden gems that aren't well-known or advertised, but they should be!

There are few things in this world that bring people together like pizza. If you have some tomato sauce, cheese, and bread, you can make a tasty meal for yourself or your whole family. But what if you want something more? Well, then it's time to head for the hills—and by hills I mean mountains and small towns outside of major cities. These places often have amazing pizzerias that are known only to locals but would put many big-city restaurants to shame!

If you want to know where to find the best pizza in a small town, look no further than your own kitchen. If you're like most people, you'll be able to whip up a tasty pie that rivals anything on this list.

But if you are looking for a little direction from an expert (and we assume that's why you're reading this article), here are some places worth checking out:

  • Viola's Pizza Company - Located in Viola, Tennessee. In the Summer of 2017, several things fell into place for this family to start their journey into opening this pizza company. So, they found a location less than 5 miles from their home in Viola which only has a population of 133. On September 17th, 2017 Viola Pizza Company opened. Today, over 4 years later, they continue to draw folks from many miles away to enjoy their hand-crafted dough (made over 3 days), smooth tomato sauce with hand-crushed tomatoes, a blend of cheese that is shredded in-house and toppings that are prepared right in the shop on the square in Viola!

  • Marioochi’s Pizzeria - Great local wood fire pizza. The pizza is authentic, with freshly sourced ingredients and imported Italian spring water and cheeses. This restaurant has a simple exterior but once you go through their doors you quickly realize there is nothing simple here. There is a full bar along the beautiful brick walls and your eyes head straight back to the massive wood grilled pizza oven. The Pizzeria is located in a historic building on the square in downtown Sparta, Tennessee.
